That's weird indeed...

I Think Coldplay should never be compared to U2 , even if coldplay became huge or minor or anything else , U2 Is Something else , never any band out there should be compared to them.

They are from the begining insisted to be something else than any other band and still they are
So

Coldplay's new dress sense is killing me though. I could barely watch them on Jonathon Ross last week

Agreed, they look like they broke into Madame Tussauds...

Must say that their new album really has grown on me the past few days. Lost, Life in Technicolor, Lovers in Japan, Violet Hill, Viva La Vida, Death and All His Friends...all great songs, one better than the other though.

They really booked progression with this album for sure. But it's bollocks to say that they've kicked U2's arse. Before they can even reach the status of U2, they'll need plenty of time and plenty of work and luck.

Further on...has anyone seen the Violet Hill video? Reminds me to Bono, Edge, Larry and Adam walking in the desert during the JT-era.

Coldplay's great and so is their new cd
but they have a long way to go before they're better than U2
U2's been around forever and has been consistently coming out with great new material
They're extremely hard to beat

Viva la Vida is absolutely extraordinary.

I don't know why everyone's getting offended about Coldplay 'attacking' U2's position, though I guess it can be expected at a u2 fansite. But c'mon! Forget the ridiculous-competitive-top-ten spirit of comparing one band to another and look at what they all have to bring to the table. There is always room for beautiful music in the world.

Viva la Vida is a masterpiece, topping Rush of Blood to the Head the same way I think Achtung topped Joshua Tree. Revolutionary and evolutionary, complicated and simple, personal and universal, its a brilliant album. No two songs sound alike and each seems to bring something to the other (songs that rely on each other to become something bigger as a whole is rare in today's easily abandoned album format). Viva la Vida is more than collection of songs, its a celebration of life and all the colors, meloncholy blues to bright lush reds (Yellow anyone?).

Had coldplay churned out another x/y, I would think they deserved to fall under U2's shadows but they are now in a completely different terrain. U2 has never and would never be able to create an album like this, just the same as Coldplay could never and would never create a AB, JT or Unforgettable Fire.

Attending a Coldplay concert on Saturday and a U2 concert on Sunday is what I would call a fantastic weekend. If they were on the same day and I could only attend one, then maybe I would be inclined to compare (in which case U2's new album would have to be really, REALLY good) but since that's not likely to happen, why not put aside the nasty glances and defensive postures? This is a fantastic album and I think Chris and the boys deserve it, don't they?

Sums it up pretty well. I agree with you.

got the album today and still have to listen to it several times, but I just have to say how much the song 'viva la vida' blows me off my feet. I LOVE the rhythm, the lyrics, the atmosphere that swings with the song - simply fantastic

I thought violet hill was brilliant already, but viva la vida is just as awesome if not a tiny bit better, imo!

Lovers In Japan and Cemeteries Of London both have great atmosphere-making music as well

I really like 42, Cemeteries Of London, Death And All His Friends and Lost!. Viva La Vida and Violet Hill are great too. But Strawberry Swing is the weakest song...

From the interview posted on coldplay.com with Chris Martin, about the new tour:

So, presumably you have lots of exciting plans for the shows which you can't tell us about yet?
Oh, I'll tell you everything. For starters, we've got some incredible balls. And I mean that in the most technological of senses. If you come to our concert, you'll see the most magical balls you've ever seen. In fact, they're the most magic balls since John Lee Hooker had about 50 kids. And ours is the first concert in the world to feature them.

Where did you get these magic balls?
We found them in this place in the north of England that makes clever things. They're part of our continuing mission to make a big room feel as small as possible.

What is he talking about?!

no idea but it sounds cool. When does the proper tour start? I missed tickets for Belfast
